Montreal French Camps - Seniors

Students enrolled in the MWS Montreal French Camps have the option of spending 5 days on a full French-language immersion trip to Quebec City.

During their classroom studies at MWS Montreal, students will spend a part of each lesson preparing for the immersion trip. A variety of excursions and activities in Quebec City will give the students the opportunity to “use” the French language skills taught in class.

The Quebec City trip is a fantastic way to “live” and “experience” the French language and Quebecois culture in a city with over 400 years of rich and exciting history!

  • for Residential Students – The Quebec City programme is included in the price of all 3 and 4 weeks sessions.
  • for Day Camp Students – The Quebec City programme is optional for all day camp sessions. There is an additional charge for this programme.

The Quebec City trip operates during MWS Montreal Camps regular session dates.

Accommodation:

Accommodation in Quebec City is in small, privately run “pensions” (family operated, bed and breakfast hotels), historic student residences or in charming hotels located in the centre of the city.

  • Rooms divided according to age and sex of students
  • Double, triple and quad room accommodation, based on availability
  • Semi-private and shared washrooms (similar to residence set-up at MWS Montreal Camps)
  • Bedding is supplied but not towels
  • Common/activity rooms

Meals:

Students visit a variety of restaurants with options of entrees to choose from at all locations. Some meals (breakfasts) are at the accommodation site.

The restaurants used by MWS are small, quaint establishments serving fine food and adding to the special flavor of this immersion experience.

Staff:

The Quebec City trip is a direct extension of the MWS Montreal Camps. Counsellors and/or teachers accompany and supervise the students at all times.

Language Study:

French language instruction continues during the trip in a “hands-on” approach. Interactive workshops at various excursions and mobile classrooms throughout the day keep the students interested and learning at all times.

Excursions:

  • Animation tours of Vieux Quebec – guided walking tours of Old Quebec (both Upper Town and Lower Town) including the Dufferin Terrace, Chateau Frontenac, Rue du Tresor, National Assembly, Place des Armes, Place Royale, Quartier du Petit Champlain and more. The tours are lead by animated interpreters who make the history and culture of old Quebec come alive. Tours are interactive with the students’ full participation.
  • Place Royal Interpretation Centre – Interactive workshops on learning about life in 17th and 18th century New France (dancing, food preparation, music, toy making, fashion, etc).
  • La Citadelle – visit historic fort built to protect Quebec City on Cap Diamante, the highest point above the St. Lawrence River. Today the Citadelle is the home of the 22nd Royal Regiment, one of Canada’s most famous military units.
  • Montmorency Falls – on the Beaupre shore, walk across the suspension bridge over the highest waterfall in North America and climb down the stairs to the interpretation centre.
  • Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre Basilica – visit and tour of this world famous pilgrimage site on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, built as a shrine to the patron saint of sailors.
  • Erabliere visit and meal – A traditional Quebec sugar shack where students learn how to make maple syrup, eat tortiere (traditional Quebec meal) and discover local legends through woodcarving art.
  • Tadoussac Excursion (full day) – visit to the Tadoussac region of Quebec where students will go on a whale watching expedition, take part in a hiking trek and town visit.
  • First Nations Village visit – Tour of and workshops in a First Nations village (Algonquin) to learn more about the history of settlement in Quebec and Canada.
